Importing several folders from the same card

tosca
For the first time, I created different folders on my memory card, in order to separate the pictures of different tennis matches that have taken place on the same day.
How will Digikam import these folders? Will it automatically create different folders in the destination album? Or shall I have to import manually the content of each folder in a different sub-album in order to keep the pictures separated?

Thanks for your answer,
Marie-Noëlle

With my settings, all selected photos (even from several directories) get
imported into one destination directory.

I didn't find anything, but then, I'm not really concerned by that:
even if I could preserve the directory structure on the card, I'd still
have to change the names of the directories. So I prefer downloading the
files 'en masse' and then move the keepers to subdirectories.

If you want to keep the structure of the directories on the card,
you can always download the data directly into the Digikam tree (before
starting Digikam) and then let the program see the new files and import them
into its database.

The directory names are not a problem, as I download the pictures in temporary folders where I'll procede to my selection; only the pictures I'll keep will go their 'permanent' folder, with a real name.

Right. I'll probably do that if there is no other way of doing it. But currently, Digikam launches as soon as I put a card in the card reader, and I find this very convenient.
And yes, I want to keep the structure of directories, as I've defined different folders on the card specifically to distinguish different events in the same day.

Marie-Noëlle,

From what I know about PTP transfert, I think this is not possible.
(And it's not a Digikam issue.)

PTP has been designed to transfert ImagesObjects, from a camera to a
computer, and the images organisation on the camera memory storage
(the DCIM structure) is to be opaque to PTP clients.

Seems that the only way to « see » a possible subdirectories structure
is to use a filesystem oriented procedure such as a USB mount using
a USB SDCard reader.
That way, you'll be able to make a copy (cp -r, or rsync) that honours
your SH card substructure.

Jean-François

PS: the above has been true for years, but I must confess I don't use
PTP anymore because it doesn't work with my current camera.
(It works, but loading say 150 images from a SD card takes about 30
minutes, compared to a 30 seconds copy from a USB reader. So...)
Perhaps recent versions of PTP may have added subdirectories support
but I'm not sure.

I don't know what PTP is. I use a USB card reader, that can read many card formats (for photography, I use Compact Flash or SD card, depending on the camera).

That way, you'll be able to make a copy (cp -r, or rsync) that honours
your SH card substructure.

It seems easier to do a copy/paste from a Nautilus window. I'll just have to deactivate Digikam automatic launching when a card is put in the card reader.

Thanks for your answer.

Marie-Noëlle

I apologize, I thought you were using direct connection between camera
and computer (and PTP is the transfert protocol in charge of that).
But if you use USB reader...
Ok, forget that :-)

Probably yes. Regarding that, I agree with Remco :
