Import existing folder

Hi :)
I have an old HDD (fedora8) with several folders of photos there (on different locations/partitions). I recently bought a new HDD (fedora9) and want to collect all my new photos there, but still have the old ones in the digiKam database without having to copy them to the new HDD. How do I do that? How do I do > that? > > Mihaela One way is to mount the old HDD to the same system. Then, from digiKam you invoke from the Import menu 'Add Folder...' and you navigate to the old HDD photos folder. DigiKam will import all those images into the new location and read the metadata into the database. I tried that, but it copies all the images to my new HDD, I don't want that. The old HDD is always mounted so i'd like the old photos to stay there and configure digiKam to use them from there. When I set Album Library Path path to one of the old folders it imports the info them correctly, without copying them anywhere, but then how do I make all the new photos download on the new HDD? Is there a way to have multiple Album Library Paths with one main? Maybe you used symbolic links... digiKam 0.9.x versions have only one album root, but the new 0.10.x releases for KDE4 will support multiple album collections. So right now the only solution might be a symbolic link in your main album root to all the other paths on the old HDD... Sorry, I seem to have a hole in my memory... I went to the old disk (fedora8) and found all my new photos in the old folder, and not in the new folder as I had thought. First of all you need KDE4 libs (maybe the whole desktop to make sure all the
necessary dependencies are installed). All of the libs (except lensfun, but this is an optional package anyway) should be included in the KDE4 desktop installation, at least this is the case for my linux distribution. Here in Archlinux I get fresh KDE4 packages weekly, but since I develop for digiKam I compile all mentioned libs by myself... For 3 of them I need the newer versions (libkipi, kexiv2 and kdcraw). That is what cmake reports too after I run it. If I get the newer versions for those 3 libs will I be able to compile? Hard to say :-) If nothing is wrong with your system, you should be able to compile... but I can't promise that :-) The output of cmake looks good, try to get the requested libs and it should work... You may have a $PKG_CONFIG_PATH problem, if not pointing explicitly to your kde4 pkgconfig directory, it'll find the kde3 config, which seems to be your case.
