I have recently updated my openSUSE 12.3/KDE 4.10.5 machine to DigiKam
3.3.0. I find that frequently the Edit-Enhance-Local Contrast tool hangs or fails to initialize. I see no progress in the lower left corner of the window. Interestingly, Local Contrast runs fine on the same image using the Batch Queue Manager. And, I believe, it runs much faster. Any thoughts or similar results? _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

It appears to me that digikam seems to have issues in each release, that are
already fixed for the next. Maybe a small beta or rc period would be nice? yes both have a problem.
In fact in 3.2 a long time problem have been present in plugins init. In 3.3 i fixed some type of plugins, but i forget to check all others, thinking that will be fine. My apologies. I review whole implementation relevant of all plugins init and removed all time latencies and race conditions. I checked all on slow and speed computers. All is fine now. Thanks for the update and all your efforts, Gilles.
While I applaud with Anders' intent, I would probably opt for what we have currently, incremental "production" releases with perhaps a few buglets. When something really goes poorly, one can easily(usually) back up to a prior "more acceptable" release. An issue I would have with "testing" releases would be that it almost requires a dedicated machine (or perhaps a dedicated VM) to test in parallel while running a "production" environment as well. Keeping releases isolated on the same machine is difficult(IMHO) On 08/14/2013 04:43 PM, Gilles Caulier wrote: > yes both have a problem. > > In fact in 3.2 a long time problem have been present in plugins init. > > In 3.3 i fixed some type of plugins, but i forget to check all others, > thinking that will be fine. Hi beside, there are always beta releases before a final release. Only thing is if nobody tests them then bugs wont be found. I am certainly not the person for it but if there are some on the mailing list who would like to test beta releases independent from Gilles, then the major releases might have a better quality. Not that I say it is poor quality but that prevent the use of a function, that is used a lot can be a big minus for a software.
I think we all love digikam so if someone can set up a "digikam release testers" group ... go for it. Andy

Why not download the beta code and build your own beta version? With most distros it's quite easy to rebuild a package and install it, if it causes enough trouble then it's easy to downgrade back to the previous release. -- Brian Morrison "I am not young enough to know everything" Oscar Wilde _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
In all case checking out source code from git/master is always the
most easy way to test and report, and test quickly when a fix is commited. You just need to solve dependencies to compile. It's not difficult. It's just few devel packages to install after all. The process to compile is just few line of code to run in the console. It's explained here : http://www.digikam.org/download?q=download/GIT Gilles Caulier 2013/8/15 Brian Morrison <[hidden email]>: > On Wed, 14 Aug 2013 17:27:07 -0400 > Carl McGrath <[hidden email]> wrote: > >> While I applaud with Anders' intent, I would probably opt for what we >> have currently, incremental "production" releases with perhaps a few >> buglets. > > Why not download the beta code and build your own beta version? NOTE : About this problem of wrong init of image editor tools. Look on
the bottom/left, in status bar of editor, there is a progress bar which still to 0% when tool is loaded at the first time. beside progress bar, there is a cancel button. Just press it, et voilà, init will be done. Close tool and restart it. This time, there is no frozen state.
