Does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with AVCHD videos (from a
Lumix DMC-TZ20 and maybe others) in Digikam? I've been meaning to try to get up the learning curve with that or Lives or one of the Linux video editors (I've been using kino for DVs but to edit anything else requires converting to DV first, and it's a bit limited in what it can do). But what I meant (sorry, it was late and I wasn't being very clear) was how to import/download the videos from my Lumix along with the still pictures it takes, as I would if I had the camera set to record in a format that produces MOV files. So I want to extract the timestamp information from wherever that is stored [1] and use that to timestamp the videos in the same format as my stills (in my case yyyyMMdd_hhmmss_[file]{lower}.[ext]{lower}). I probably also need to convert from MPEG Transport Stream to MPEG Program Stream[2]. I realise this functionality is a big ask from the digikam developers (unless they happen to have a camera that records in this format ;-)) but I hope it's useful to formulate the problem, and I wonder if anyone knows of existing tools that might help me roll my own solution in the meantime. ..................................................................... CameraGUI (renamed ImportUI in next 3.0.0 release) is under revamping
through GoSC2012 We currently add group item feature. It's that you need : group video + image. Right ? In fact the script[1] I used to use for grabbing everything off my cameras' memory cards does the job just fine! However the newly copied and datestamped files don't show up in digikam. Interesting they do show up in gwenview which is also able to play them - I thought digikam and gwenview shared code? I guess if I can crack the second bit of my task - converting to program stream .MOVs - digikam should be OK with them. ...................................................................... [1] It's at http://yaph.org.uk/photo/getpix It's horribly kludgy and desperately needs a tidy up but it does work. Unfortunately my gentoo system is being rebuilt at the moment so I can't run up a quick test to see whether I changed something but I do remember having to tell some part of KDE or digikam that MTS was a video file. -- Tim Jenness _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Maybe that's a kde thing - perhaps there's an option somewhere to display video thumbnails and I haven't got it set. Or maybe it's one of those features that kde lost when they upgraded from 3.5 to 4 :-( -- John Stumbles http://stumbles.org.uk :-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-: _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Looks like ffmpeg is my friend here: ffmpeg -i input_file.mts -vcodec copy -acodec copy output_file.mp4 seems to do the trick, and give me files about the same size (slightly smaller) and quality (as far as I can see) which digikam can see and smplayer can play. So I just have to modify my getpix script again. Last question: does anyone know how to hack on kde so that when you plug in a memory card and kde pops up a dialogue asking what you want to do with it, that you can add an option to run your own program (i.e. getpix in this case)? -- John Stumbles http://stumbles.org.uk :-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-: _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Asking Digikam to read them let you at risk to launch one accidentally and being stuck. http://dodin.org/wiki/index.php?n=Doc.ConversionVideo here you will find some scripts to convert MTS to more usable files. But video and photo are two different beats. Digikam video feature is just convenient for incidental use, not for really work with videos use kdenlive or openshot instead jdd -- http://www.dodin.org http://jddtube.dodin.org/20120616-52-highway_v1115 _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
