How to open existing database

ozzyprv

I managed to install digikam 2.0.0.4 in a spare laptop to give it a try.
Now I want to open my existing collection with this new version.

How do I tell dk 2.0.0.4 to use my existing database (a copy of it anyway).

Thank you.

PS: I did my homework, I google it and search this mail-list....with no luck.

Rinus
Goto Settings->Configure Digikam->database, click the icon and choose a
the path where your existing database resides, and add your collection.
If it asks, say use existing database".

Re: How to open existing database

Thanks, it worked but not with the desired results.

A question for the group.
What is your recommendation for keeping a reliable database for your collection?

I back up my collection and database on a regular basis, and into multiple (physically separated) locations. So safety (from accidentally deleting files, file corruption, fire, etc) is not a problem.

What I am looking for is suggestions to be able to reliably delete/upgrade digiKam without having to worry about having to create a new database: tags, rankings, comments, etc, etc, etc. I have a significant amount of pictures and so far I have had re-created my tags, rankings, etc twice in 6 months.
Obviously I am doing something wrong. I haven't heard anyone else with this issue....it is me :-(

Should I have a specific file/folder structure? Is there a preferred location for the database file within the collection?

Thank you in advance.

In which way did it interfere whith the desired results? As you say you have backups I might be able to figure out how to do it for a second time with desired results.
About recreating tags etc: somewhere in the menustructure is an option to write the metadata to your photos, Most likelely it will all show up again after upgrade.
There is no special need to the folder structure or the location of the database.
