Hello,
I switched to the AppImage version of digiKam, and it works like a charm. I wonder, though, whether it's possible to replace the default splash screen with a custom one. In a regular digiKam installation, it's enough to replace the splash-digikam.png file in /usr/share/digikam/data/. But that obviously wouldn't work with the AppImage version. Thank you, Dmitri |
Hi Dmitri, AppImage is a self contained bundle. It's a ISO9660 mount and decompressed in memory. So the content is read only. You cannot change the splash-screen. To see content, try : mkdir ./temp && mount ./digikam-5.4.0-x86_64.appimage ./temp && ls -al ./temp So typically, if you want a new option somewhere to customize splash-screen in the future, open a new file in bugzilla. Thank you for your reply, Gilles! No need to open a bug, I was just curious. :-)

Note : AppImage can take options on command line. For ex : - ./digikam-5.4.0-x86_64. -./digikam-5.4.0-x86_64. More options will come with next version. The current AppImage use SDK version 1. I suspect that options to update need SDK version 2 which still in beta stage. So i recommend to open a new file in bugzilla about this topic. But this must include other bundle for MAcOS and Windows. Something like FireFox or LibreOffice, with a web repository check to see if new release is available. Would you really want that? I prefer getting an announcement when there's a new version, and decide _myself_ if/when I'm going to get it... |
With FireFox and LibreOffice, a warning appear and ask you to process or not. There are also one option to disable new version check. Gilles Caulier 2017-01-18 17:24 GMT+01:00 Remco Viëtor <[hidden email]>:

I would focus on something more important though. For example, yesterday digiKam crashed when I added a face region. I did not submit a bug report yet but I will if the issue occurs again. Can anyone now confirm that Appimage works like a charm even in the case of "Open with..." command added to menubar and will open the file selected, for example, in Darktable if one choose that program? Many thanks for answers. Antonio Il giorno mer 18 gen 2017 alle ore 18:42 Gilles Caulier <[hidden email]> ha scritto:

Yes, The bundle can be now compiled quickly, to press a simple button (one script to start). The compilation to update one bundle take around 45mns, with uploading to GDrive. I spend personalty few months to optimize and finalize all bash script to build bundles. It start to be very powerful, to track / kill bugs, and to test / promote new features with pre-release. The KDE dependencies reduction increase a lots the stability, especially on non Linux system. I sure that it's the way to continue. It still 15/20% of core dependencies, and i will continue to drop all the possible. The goal : be able to provide a pure Qt5 application. The 'K' in digiKam will be a simple legacy in the future. We have 2 new motivated contributors : Simon who is interested to improve Group features, and Mario who have already improved Similarity search. This last one start to hack Face Management. I have been contacted by 2 students for this summer : one to rewrite face recognition algorithm, another one to work on UPNP/DLNA database export. Perhaps a 3rd one will work on database core, it's not yet sure... Gilles Caulier 2017-01-18 20:25 GMT+01:00 Andrey Goreev <[hidden email]>:
