First question, are the RAW and JPG same named except the extension ?
If yes it should be quitly easy to rename JPG and RAW with the same root name (may be not with Digikam (I'm not using it to rename my Pictures, but I use RapidPhotoDownloader to copy/rename my photos to my collection directory from my memory card)) The tip I to, instead using numbering, use the original filename with the unique number inside. But I see something in the renaming option for Numbering which (translated from french) is "Number respecting extension" in the 1.6.0 version, mau be it's made for this case ? (I doesn't test as my pictures doesn't need to be renamed...) Yep. In the english version, the "extension aware numbering" feature
(under the number tab in rename sequence) was added in 1.5(?). Its great!
