How Do I Rename an Album ???

BuckSkin
I have a couple albums/collections that I would like to rename.
When I hi-lite the album in the left pane and open the "album" menu, the choice "rename" is greyed out and does nothing.
I have tried every possibility I could think of and still cannot rename these albums.
Using Windows 7; thanks for reading.

Album rename only work with Physical Album (folder in disk).
This can be improved in the future.

To rename Virtual Album, use contextual menu over tree-view, and use properties option.

Re: How Do I Rename an Album ???

I did ask about this last year. I have two albums which are actually
directory names on disk. Both properties and rename are greyed out, one
shows as Graphics1 and the other as /home/stuart/Work/Graphics, so you
can see this uses the full path where as the other simply uses the
directory name. What I wanted to do was rename the one which uses the
full path to just use the final part of the directory name ie. Grpahics.

It makes no sense that they are named differently as the are both
directories in the Work folder. This is on Linux (obviously). How on
earth did this happen?

under Linux, if you choose a virtual Album, Album/Rename menu option is disable. It's not the case for a physical album. So the behavior is fully reproducible.

I suspect that BuckSkin try to use the menu option with a tag album.

And that's the problem: we can only "suspect" as there's very little actual
information in the original post...

Tag albums, search albums, etc... all are virtual, by the fact that they are not relevant of folders directly from disk. They groups items virtually in database.

Same here: that's the first time I hear about virtual albums ... and I would be very interested to be able to use them.

I dont know what is a 'virtual album'in dk. In my case, when i create

I understand now: 'virtual album' is  just a tag folder

Well, if it would be possible to create virtual albums from search results, I would very much appreciate the feature.

Re: How Do I Rename an Album ???

I do not understand a lot of the terminology and have no idea what is meant by "virtual album" or "tag album"

This is what I did:
Click settings > Configure DigiKam > Collections > Add Collection, at which point a browse-for-folder window appeared; I selected the folder I wanted, clicked "okay" in the little "this is how the folder name will display" box, clicked "okay" at the bottom of the configure window, and the folder shows up in the left side "albums" pane.

Currently, I have about twelve "albums", each being the entire contents of a single folder that is on my hard-drive; later, I decided that it would be better if two of these "albums" had different names that would better describe what they were.

The only way I have found to accomplish this is to delete the "collection" in settings>configure>collections and then enter the folder all over again, being sure to give it the correct name this time around; that method works, but is a whole lot of extra work/time.

DigiKam is a wonderful feature-filled program that could be the best there is if good understandable instructions that explained every step in detail from a complete beginner's point of view were available.
I very much appreciate DigiKam being made available for us to use.

Thanks for reading.

As I understand those, it's just a matter of setting up a search (in the
"advanced search" dialog) and give the result set a name in "Save current
search". All of this in the Search tab, of course.
