Gsoc 2021 digikam

Hi all,
I mailed earlier also regarding contribution to digikam but due to some
academic responsibilities I wasn't able to solve any bugs but I have a
basic idea of the codebase and since GSOC is around the corner, I would
like to participate and contribute to digikam as I really like the
application
I have programming experience in C++. OpenCV and Neural Net (python), ready
to learn anything if required.
I have built DigiKam from the source already. I would be very grateful if I
could be assigned some task related to the project. Otherwise, I could
start solving bugs related to "Face Tags" on Bugzilla and I'm currently
going through the documentation.
These are two projects I am interested in working :
1)  New plugin to process OCR and currently going through links provided in bug related to it
2)  Faces Engine Improvements

Thanks

Regards

Hello all

Just to update , I like both of projects I mentioned above that is tesseract and face detection one.
I am currently going through all understanding of plugin system and how kooka has implemented tesseract.
Any kind of guidance/help will be much appreciated.

Thank you

Hi Vishal,

We already have students preparing the ML and Image Quality projects,
but nobody on the OCR one.

About the digiKam plugins architecture, the API are located in core :

https://invent.kde.org/graphics/digikam/-/tree/master/core/libs/dplugins

and doc online is here :

https://www.digikam.org/api/

In my github account, you will find hello world demo of dplugins :

https://github.com/cgilles/digikam-plugins-demo

If you need more details, don't hesitate to ask in this room

Best regards

Hi mentors,
I would like to start writting proposal for OCR implementation in digikam.
So far I have general idea of Dplugins (thanks to Giles github link) and
have gone through kooka implementation ( though it's little hard to
understand it all this early to be honest ).

But I want to give it a shot so please could you please tell your final
expectations in proposal. Also, i am also working on simple tesseract and Qt based app just to get a jist of tesseract, would you like to see it's output on proposal also?

Thank you
