Hello everyone,
I'm a fairly new linux user and I was searching for a replacement for for the other photo album software I had been using. I just love the software so far! :) I was wondering though, how well does the face tagging work? I started manually tagging some photos last night and it worked ok. But when I had digikam scan the album for faces to tag, it found only 13 faces in 5 photos. There are hundreds of photos that have people in them, I thought it would have picked them up. Does it get better at finding faces the more you use it? I'm using digikam version 2.1.1 and Ubuntu 11.10. you must definitively use a more recent version. 2.5.0 is last stable.
2.6.0 is in beta stage... I'm using 2.5.0 which spots faces (and face-like objects) in pictures pretty well, but as yet doesn't seem able to identify whose faces they are. As I understand it that's still being worked on by the people writing the face-recognition library (libface) which DigiKam and other projects can use. So one currently has to manually tag the faces that DK has identified. -- John Stumbles http://stumbles.org.uk :-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-: _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Oh ok, I didn't realize that it was so out of date. It's the only one
in the Ubuntu software centre. How can I find 2.5? I finally figured out how to set up 2.5 and it worked much better. :)
It took just a few min to scan the folders and it looks like it found all the people ones. I don't mind having to tag them by hand. It's just a big help having them already sorted! Note that about Face Management :
1/ Face detection work fine (use OpenCV library and libface) 2/ Face Recognition is not fully implemented in libface. A GsOC 2012 project have been open to find a student to work on it this summer : http://community.kde.org/GSoC/2012/Ideas#Project:_Face_Recognition Gilles Caulier 2012/3/20 Kim <[hidden email]>: > I finally figured out how to set up 2.5 and it worked much better. :) It > took just a few min to scan the folders and it looks like it found all the > people ones. And DigiKam's interface seems to run extremely slowly in face mode, e.g. just when dropping non-faces that it's identified. -- John Stumbles http://stumbles.org.uk :-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-: _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

If you have multicore cpu this will be better. Don't forget that main algorithm use OpenCV lib. Optimization are important here, especially if library is compiled properly, but digiKam team cannot manage it. So optimization of openCV is delegate to packagers...
