Face tag metadata

Tom Cunningham

Where/how is face tag metadata stored by digiKam?  I have “Face Tags (including face areas)” checked under Settings->Metadata->Behavior, and the rectangle and name show up in the preview image, but I don’t see any face-related data in the digiKam metadata display or that displayed by exiftool.

I have noticed the same. XN Viewer shows everything but not digiKam, why?

i am pretty sure mine are there. make sure you write metadata to jpegs themselves not only to database.

That's when I edit the pic in digiKam.
By the way how do I do that, (sorry but I'm noob in digiKam), I couldn't google anything up.

The reason why I emailed that digiKam doesn't show the in the jpeg stored face tag related tags in metadata sidebar although face tag frame is shown and XnView shows all related metadata.

Yeah the metadata sidebar isn't showing all the metadata. In fact, I am not sure what it is for at all.
As for image editing, there is a corresponding button on the toolbar. I think pressing F4 will open it too.

Re: Face tag metadata

PackElend
Hoi Andrey,
thx for your response but it hint doesn't help.

  1. If I add a face in the preview window (I added TestUser) I cannot save it in the Image Editor, see below. Besides this, that would be very inconvenient if I would need to use the Image Editor for each pic to save such changes.

  2. So how I save added faces to the metadata of each pic. I added faces on two pics.
    1. the only tool what might be the right one ist the Batch Queue Manager as both show up there as single queues but I have no clue how to write the new metadata to the files.
    2. In addition I found the Tag Manager what can do Sync Export but it neither seems to have not affect on the file nor is somewhere explained what it is to supposed to do.
    3. Finally there are still the Maintenance Tool but same problem as explained in 2.

  3. So what is the purpose of the Metadata Sidebar, if it doesn't show all information?
XnView does far better. It indicates on the thumbnail that face tag. XMP, IPTC and EXIF data is stored in that file. In addition it shwos all information in the sidebar at a glance, see below.

thank you and regards

stefan
