Face detection problem

Rinus
I try to do face tagging. On my Ubuntu 10.10 with Digikam 2.0.0.4 I do not manage to do a search on folder and subfolders, It only works if I click every single folder.
Doe I realy have to click my 3117 folders to do the job? I hope I'm
missing something. Please help.

Rinus

Mmmh, curious, at my installation it doen't work neither on folders and
subfolders nor on a single folder. What I'm doing wrong?

It is a bit confusing indeed. First of all in my case you have to check
(if thats the word) the folder you want to search and also check every
subfolder (else it is left aside). Then you have to take care of the
parameters, default works great but a bit of changing gives different
results and that can be a good thing (trial and error). It works with
amazing accuracy. But you will not see the results immediatly. You have
to click at the leftside of the screen on people or on its subfolder
somtimes several times before they show up.

Although about 80 % of the people was detected I did not manage any face
to have recognised by digikam.

I wrote this as accurate as possible from my memory because I have at
the moment not the system with digikam at hand.

good luck

That's exactly, what I've done.

I've tried it some different value for accuracy, but result was in every cas:
"People (0)" and "Unknown (0)". Refreshes of "People" and its subfolders or
clicking sevaral times take no effect. I'm at a loss with it.

That has commonly happened if some OpenCV files (haarcascades) are missing...

If You are on Linux make sure that opencv data packages is installed.

And, You could run digikam form terminal window and check what
messages are outputted. It can give a hint.

And, AFAIK, if You do not check any folders, than all of them are scanned.

Thanks a lot! That was the reason! Now it works fine :)

I created a new database to try right from start and what I found is
this. If I select "recognise faces" it comes up with zero. If I select
"detect and recognise faces" (and you have at the left side of the
screen the selection bar on Mytags->People->unknown) the faces shoe up
one after another as soon as found. It still says people(0) and
Unknown(0) but they are right in front of you.

And indeed, If you selected "all albums" your whole database is scanned,
but if you want not ALL of your albums scanned you have to check not
only one or more albums but all of the sub and subsub etc albums ass
well, else it does not scan.

So you might want to verify that you had selected "detect and recognise"
btw I had choosen "clear unconfirmed results and rescan"

Kind regards
Rinus
