For this moment I'm not sure, but upgrading to Maverick will give you
access to Digikam 1.4... But may be you need an LTS version of Ubuntu ? Anybody knows if Maverick get all the dependency to build Digikam 1.5 or if some KDE components have to be updated ? I don't need a LTS version especially.
But I'm not very keen on upgrading Ubuntu at the very early stages, as I have had some problems with previous upgrades; and when it's Wifi that doesn't work, I have no more internet access to get help. In fact, I was about to have a look at Fedora, but up to now, I haven't had time to install and test it. But I can't test it under Lucid (but I will do with maverick even if I have Maverick and that the PPA repository are clearly not designed for it. I did try Digikam 1.4.0 some weeks ago, and it didn't work properly (problems with Ubuntu / KDE?) ; so I got back to the 1.2.0 version.

Hi,
Installing Digikam svn is not that hard. To install the svn version of Digikam (future 1.6) under Ubuntu 10.4 you can do the following: -1- first uninstall digikam: sudo apt-get remove digikam digikam-doc digikam-dbg kipi-plugins showfoto libkdcraw8 -2- then install the dependencies needed to build DigiKam: sudo apt-get build-dep digikam sudo apt-get build-dep kipi-plugins -3- then execute the attached script: chmod u+x install-digikam-svn.sh ./install-digikam-svn I hope this helps, Julien Le 18/10/2010 12:52, Marie-Noëlle Augendre a écrit : I did try Digikam 1.4.0 some weeks ago, and it didn't work properly (problems with Ubuntu / KDE?) ; so I got back to the 1.2.0 version. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users insall-digikam-svn.sh (788 bytes) Download Attachment |
Thanks for your answer, but I'm not going to try to install Digikam svn, as I'm not even able to make work the most recent packaged version.
I only want 1.5.0 (or 1.4.0) version. And only that requires KDE 4.5 (I don't even know what is is!) and some Linux distribution that allows me get the right Digikam version. I'm no developer, just trying to 'use' some softwares (Digikam being one of them) without too much hassle ... and I have had quite a lot (Ubuntu, wifi, tablet, dependecies of all kinds, etc.) since I switch to Linux a year ago. I thing you just forget to precise it's needed to install subversion.

I tried building the svn version with the explain of Julien Narboux and his script, and all was going very well under Ubuntu 10.10. I don't if it was me or the attachment but I have to rename it, the name was insall... instead of install. In an other side, the darktheme matter evocated some days ago about the Ubuntu 10.10 version used with the gnome environnement is still remaining. I will post later a dedicated thread for that with a snapshot. Hi,
As my hardisk has crashed last week (with my home dir and my tagged pictures (hopefully I had a backup of tagged pictures before august, and a backup of imported picture after that made by Rapid Photo downloader)), so I have to install a fresh new Ubuntu and digikam. As the use of the Julien Narboux worked very well before the crash, I decided to directly install the SVN version, but I encounter a matter at first start evoking an impossibility to access database. When launching in a terminal, this message repeat itself : Error messages: "Driver not loaded Driver not loaded" -1 1 "Driver not loaded" "Driver not loaded" QSqlError(-1, "Driver not loaded", "Driver not loaded") I look in synaptic which dependencies are needed by the repository's Digikam, and I notice libqt4-sql-sqlite is needed, but not installed on my system. After I install it, Digikam launch and ask me the location for my pictures (as the database matter avoids the validation of the initial location ?), I choose and the scan start normally. The only thing I see, it's the build-dep for digikam miss this librabry (instead, mysql is installed by build-dep but not used by default). So it's may be a thing to changes. And a grateful thanks for Digikam !
