Hello. Im new to DigiKam. Im using it under Windows 32. Since i have more than one PC, i want to know, if it is possible to transfer Pictures and Database to another PC, so that i can use the same Level on a other PC. Ist it possible and what must i do? _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users smime.p7s (2K) Download Attachment |
Hello, I'm not using dk on windows, but I think somer general rules may apply. It is indeed possible to transfer anything, but I haven't fully understood what your goal is: migrating everything to another PC or working from diferent PCs simultaneously? The Point is, i have a Collection on Photos on PC1 with Windows Vista. I must make there some changes to this Collection. After this, i will move this with all new Metadata, Album and so on to a new PC with either Windows 8 or Windows 7.
Maybe, there will be a Day, where i need to Work on this Collection with both PC's. So it sounds, that the second thing is more for me. If it is possible to store both, the Database and the Collection on a Netshare (SMB, FTP), this could be the better solution. Its possible to save my files on a SMB Share from my Router (AVM FritzBox), so i can access them from both PC's. It must be not possible to use them on the same time. It is possible to move the photos and database to another PC.
Part of the difficulty lies in the, IMHO, poor design decision to write the path to the collection into the database. This may include a GUID of the HDD on which it originally resided. So even if you recreate the path including the drive letter on the new PC you may still have problems unless you manually edit the database entry involved. You can indeed have the photos on a netshare as a remote collection. The situation with the database is more complicated however. If you use sqlite then the database must be on a local drive for the PC accessing it ie no network at all. If you use MySQL then you can have a remote PC running the db as a server. However this implementation is not yet bug free so use at your own risk. Andrew On 27/01/14 06:33, Sebastian Pfohl wrote: > The Point is, i have a Collection on Photos on PC1 with Windows Vista. I have pictures duplicated on laptop and desktop, plus I have a
server. What I do is to synchronise them to the server, so a change
on laptop gets copied to the server when I sync, then to the desktop
when I sync that. For DigiKam everything (pictures, thumbnails and
database) is in the directory that you specify as the album, so
transfer is easy. It can take a little while to start DigiKam after
a change as it looks for new content but it all works fine. You
could do this with a straight sync between two machines, and if it
is just a one off to move it all then just copy the whole directory
across.
I do it all on Linux but I am sure you can do the same on Windows Mick On 27/01/14 06:33, Sebastian Pfohl

Ist it possible and what must i do? Hi Sebastian, From my understanding you are staying "on Windows" ... I have no experience with that. When on vacation I travel with a Win7 notebook (Digikam 3.? installed). After returning home I transfer the pictures to the main machine (Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS running Digikam 2.6) ... all the data like tags, geolocation etc. are flawlesly imported. I never transfered the database, since it is automatically created by the receiving machine. Not sure if that helps ... -- Talk to you later ... Hello,
I think DigiKam miss some rules/info regarding the database location and photo albums. This have little importance for the usual install, but have a heavy one when migrating or copying. one of the reasons is that it do not sems possible to *exclude* a folder from being use by DigiKam. I mean, if you have folders medias photo1 photo2 video Audio and if you choose "media" as collection location, it's not possible to say "video" and "audio" do not have to be indexed by digiKam. It may be solved by links, but links are always confusing, specially when a copy is planned. si one have to keep all the digiKam photos and these only in a sub tree, say: digiKam photo1 photo2 in this situation, the (sqlite) database can be located in the digiKam folder and archived pretty easily an other way could be to allow one database per collection jdd -- http://www.dodin.org _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

I will try to migrate my SQLite DB to a MySQL DB. Either with XAMPP or on my vServer and put the Collection on a virtual Windows Share. Yesterday i have tried to install MySQL on my Router, but this fails, because a Router have not enough CPU and Memory to hold all the needed things. Maybe i can use the SMB Share on the Router to hold only the Collection and not additionaly the Database.

Hello I‘am using unison utility to make two-side synchronization between Windows and Linux through ssh on linux machine. Also unison can run as tcp-server and made all works on purely windows network. You can setup sheduling of unison on windows to made sync in background. Not sure it's a very wise decision, as MySQL is still experimental on Digikam. Marie-Noëlle2014-01-28 Sebastian Pfohl <[hidden email]>
