Hi,
I'm a beginner in using Digikam. I just installed it on my iMac (27'' / 2017 / Intel Core i5 3,4GHz) running under macOS Mojave 10.14.6. Until now, I kept using Aperture but I'm about to move to macOS Catalina. Therefore I have to accept the cruel reality and switch to something else. I chose Digikam on the advice of a friend, and what I read about it is quite promising, but... After having installed Digikam 6.4.0: 1. when launching the app, nothing happens after the window "Scanning collections, please wait... Scanning for removed albums..." unless I click on the "Cancel" button. 2. once the app is launched, Digikam doesn't display any pictures although the albums tree has been properly created 3. when closing it, the app freezes and I must kill it each time. I've created a terminal session in order to record all of this, but i have to acknowledge that I didn't manage to create a bug report. Looking forward to reading your wise advice. RK |
Hi again,
Just to give you additional information, I've digged into the logs of my terminal session and I found this: dbus[1713]: Dynamic session lookup supported but failed: launchd did not provide a socket path, verify that org.freedesktop.dbus-session.plist is loaded! After googling a little bit, here is what I can say: MacPorts is not installed on my computer and after reading this https://github.com/rickysarraf/digikam/blob/master/README.MACOSX, I assume it unnecessary since I installed Digikam through the package .pkg that I've downloaded. Am I wrong? RK -- Sent from: http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/digikam-users-f1735189.html |

Try waiting for a very long time in step 1

DBUS is not the problem here. Under non Linux platform, all dbus code in digiKam are simply disabled. In fact, even under Linux, we don't use DBUS feature in digiKam. Why ? because it's not a portable solution. It work well under Linux, but outside, it's the hell.. Macports is used to compile the application. At run-time, you don't care... Gilles Caulier Le mar. 31 déc. 2019 à 04:25, Gilles Caulier <[hidden email]> a écrit :

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I tried this evening (but I didn't stay in front of my computer). Digikam has been finally launched, but, my pictures are still not displayed. And Digikam keep freezing when I quit the app. And after beeing relaunched, the window "Scanning collections, please wait... Scanning for removed albums..." keeps staying for a long time. What else can I do? RK -- Sent from: http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/digikam-users-f1735189.html |
Please run the application from a terminal. The executable is located here : ... and post all the debug trace from the console here... Best Gilles Caulier Le ven. 3 janv. 2020 à 04:55, rkdelabarthe <[hidden email]> a écrit : Hi, |

The freeze when scanning removed albums under OSX has already been reported
and corrected in digiKam-7.0.0-Beta1. A Qt function for reading a directory takes a long time under OSX. Maik Am Donnerstag, 2. Dears,
Long time no see. I just wanted to thank you for your advices and for your help. Experiencing difficulties in using Digikam under MacOS convinced me to switch to Linux. Now it's done. I installed Ubuntu 18.04 and now I run Digikam 6.4 without any problems. Bests Raphaël -- Sent from: http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/digikam-users-f1735189.html |
