Error while opening the database. digiKam will try to automatically reconnect to the database.

When I start digiKam I get the error message:
Error while opening the database.
digiKam will try to automatically reconnect to the database.

I can click "Cancel" and it will start, but I can't import photos from
my external HDD. I deleted digikam4.db by mistake. How do I get
digiKam to work again? Thanks.

If you lost the database, you need to regenerate it. One way would be to go into the settings dialog, and under "Collections" ("Samlinger" på dansk) remove and then add your collection.

Thanks Anders. I got it to work. I had to place the new database on my
laptop instead of my external HDD. I must have moved it to my external
HDD in 2012, when I last used digiKam. Next problem is getting the
face recognition to work...
