Error starting Digikam 5 on Linux Mint 18

Kim
I upgraded to Linux Mint 18 today and installed Digikam 5 from the ppa.
When I try to launch it with the menu nothing happens. If I try to
launch it in the terminal it gives me this error:

digikam5: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/digikam5/libdigikamcore.so.5.3.0: undefined symbol:
_ZN5Exiv213XmpProperties10registerNsERKNSt7__cxx1112basic_stringIcSt11char_traitsIcESaIcEEES8_

Anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks!

Kim

Broken binary compatibility. It's a packaging problem. Use universal Linux AppImage bundle instead :

Kim,
Looks like a mismatch of what version of Exiv2 my packages are built against in my PPA and what you now have installed on your system. Check were your libexiv2-14 packages comes from and the version.

Philip,
That was the problem thanks! It showed libexiv2-14 installed version 0.25-trusty~ppa2 and the latest version 0.25-xenial~ppa2.  I forced it to upgrade and then Digikam started right up.

I had already downloaded and installed the app image version though.  Is there any advantage to running the one version over the other?

Thanks,
Kim

Gilles, That worked great thank you!  Are the new versions going to be kept on Google Drive for downloading?

Thanks,
Kim

No. The GDrive version is just a compilation of current implementation, not yet stabilized. It's not official, but it include all last fixes.

It permit to check if system packaging has a problem. It's a bundle, including all shared libraries for digiKam.

Kim,
You can compare different builds from my packages in my PPA and the appimage to see what different features are supported and what dependent library versions for functionality if you compare components in digikam > Help > Component Information. The appimage can also have in between fixes and my packages are always official version releases and usually have new fixes when the next official release is out.

I don't compute md5sum. I compile myself the bundle. This take a while. Files are shared through digiKam GDrive account. that all...

Phillips,

-Exiv2 0.16-svn, not yet released. No video file support yet, but more than 200 files closed in bugzilla since 0.25.
-OpenCV 3.1, with minimal configuration (typically all extra options disabled).
- KF5 5.28
- Qt 5.7.0
- Lensfun 0.3.2
-Gphoto2 2.5.11

... as i remember.
