Following directions I've been given on the Ubuntu french forum http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=3713218#p3713218
I managed to get the right KDE version in order to update Digikam and the kipi-plugins. However, Digikam doesn't launch any longer. When trying to run it via the console, I get this message: QSqlDatabasePrivate::removeDatabase: connection 'ConnectionTest' is still in use, all queries will cease to work.I tried to reboot the system, but to avail. Any idea what I can do to make Digikam work again? Thanks, Marie-Noëlle -- Une galerie photos, un blog ... pourquoi pas ? There may be many reasons:
You can try a few preliminaries, 1. delete /home/marie-noelle/.kde4/share/config/digikamrc and then restart digikam or 2.when digikam starts set the album folder as /home/marie-noelle/Picture this rectified the problem i faced some time back. These may not solve your problems, but they "may" just do the trick ;) On 09/07/2010 05:49 PM, Marie-Noëlle Augendre wrote: Following directions I've been given on the Ubuntu french forum http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=3713218#p3713218 _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any such file. It might be directory /home/marie-noelle/.kde/share/kde4 but there is nothing related to Digikam in it.
Well .. I'm afraid Digikam doesn't start any longer :/
As for now, I have no Digikam, not even the 1.2.0 I had this morning. Any other idea? Thanks for helping. Une galerie photos, un blog ... pourquoi pas ? Thanks, I got your message.
I'm just trying the procedure you gave me, and will post the answer. Marie-Noëlle 2010/9/7 POTTIER Michel <[hidden email]>

2010/9/7 POTTIER Michel <[hidden email]> I do not use Ubuntu (mandriva), but do you have libkdcraw installed? As Michel has been kind enough to send me explanations in french, and also told that he understands english well enough, here are the answers to what he asks me to do. ldd /usr/bin/digikam |grep kdcr => libkdcraw.so.8 => /usr/lib/libkdcraw.so.8 (0x00007f0120855000) ls -l /usr/lib/libkdcraw.so.8 => lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2010-09-07 16:02 /usr/lib/libkdcraw.so.8 -> libkdcraw.so.8.0.0 ls -l /usr/lib/libkdcraw.so.8.0.0 => ls -l /usr/lib64/libkdcraw.so.8.1.0 and find / -name "*kdcraw*" -print return so many lines with "Permission non accordée" that I cannot scroll back to the lines (I saw them displayed) containing libkdcraw Obviously, this should mean something to knowing people; but unfortunately, I have no idea what to do with it. -- Une galerie photos, un blog ... pourquoi pas ? Eventually, I end up reversing to Digikam 1.2.0 version, with very appreciated bonuses:
- I can now use the RAW tool (it was greyed before and could not be launched, as I've said in another topic) - Piwigo Export plugin now seems to work every time (touching wood ...); I can change gallery (I have several) without a glitch But I still have problem with the Facebook export plugin, not finding the existing albums, as said in a previous mail 2 days ago. I'd appreciate any advice on that particular matter. What I would like to do in the near future is to switch to another Linux distrib, as Ubuntu is always so late behind each Digikam new version. Any advice about Linux distrib that provides packages for Digikam and kipi-plugins on a regular basis? Thanks for helping, Marie-Noëlle -- Une galerie photos, un blog ... pourquoi pas ? I shifted from *buntu to Mandriva and then to PCLinuxOS before one and half year.It is a rolling Distro giving latest and greatest moreover eliminating need of reinstallation every after 6/8 months .
Presenty on PCLinuxOS2010-KDE 4.5.1 with digikam 1.4.0. The PCLinuxOS users are made available every application almost immediately i.e. on the same day or at the most on next day through the PASS server and thereafter 2 to 3 days ,or less than that, through all other servers. 'PASS' server assess is available to them who donate to PCLinuxOS .If the updates are bugfix and/or urgent, they are made available simultaneously to all, thus a general user gets immediately what he needs badly. You can have a look at the present status and history of PCLinuxOS progress/activities at http://twitter.com/iluvpclinuxos Regards.

Caution with PCLinuxOS AND Digikam
The last time i've tried this distribution, Digikam could have all its features working. In particular the geolocation couldn't works because PCLinuxOS is not able to integrate a mandatory nammed package "kdeedu-marble" I remember their answer : it is not possible to satisfy everyone Marie-Noëlle, you are french so read this : http://linuxadvantage.blogspot.com/2010/03/mon-experience-pclinuxos.html And I recommand you to try others distributions first using VirtualBox so you can see by yourself it suits you Give a try to Sidux or OpenSuse (with factory repository) 2010/9/8 jag59 <[hidden email]>
