Using Digikam 0.9.2-final with KDE 3.5.8.
I select an image and use the Email Images option which then launches Kmail. I am using Thunderbird on Ubuntu 7.10 and was expecting Tbird to launch. I checked kcontrol to change the mail client but there is nothing there that I can see to change the default mail client. Ubuntu has Tbird set as the default mail client under preferred apps. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Cheers in advance.. Thanks for the response, however this solution did not work for me.
I am using Ubuntu and the kcontrol does not have an option for default applications. There is no where to disable Kmail as default mail agent. Within the Email Images dialog (in digikam) I found under the Mail option I found the ability to specify the mail agent and the binary path. Setting this to Thunderbird and it works correctly now. However the option for Default should launch Thunderbird anyway? Would this be bug? Hubert PS Digikam is really great. Good job and congrats to all involved for such a good product.... _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
Hubert
attached are screenshots from Ubuntu 7.10, control center. This is the place where I choose thunderbird as default mail application. Try this and see if it works. No. Default means default of KDE MIME system and this is always KMail. If anything this is distro bug. m. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
I noticed a similar thing with digikam expecting konqueror instead of firefox.
Since it was just a one time thing I just installed konqueror, but obviously... this doesn't work so well for email. -Mike mmeiser.com/blog 2008/1/29 Mikolaj Machowski <[hidden email]>: > Dnia Tuesday 29 of January 2008, Hubert Furey napisał: > > Thanks for the response, however this solution did not work for me. > > I am using Ubuntu and the kcontrol does not have an option for default > > applications. > > > > There is no where to disable Kmail as default mail agent. > > > > Within the Email Images dialog (in digikam) I found under the Mail > > option I found the ability to specify the mail agent and the binary > > path. > > > > Setting this to Thunderbird and it works correctly now. > > > > However the option for Default should launch Thunderbird anyway? > > > > Would this be bug? > > No. Default means default of KDE MIME system and this is always KMail. > If anything this is distro bug. > > > m. > > _______________________________________________ > Digikam-users mailing list > [hidden email] > https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users > Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

The important thing is, in my opinion, that digikam should not force the user to use a specific web-browser or email programm. In the FAQ http://www.digikam.org/?q=node/146 this is discussed. I think it would make sense to add to this FAQ: """ For the "Email images" tool the mail agent can be specified in the dialogue. Note that the "default" mailer agent is the one defined in the KDE control center (kcontrol). """ BTW: Is the "Image/Email images" the only place where an email programm is invoked? Concerning ubuntu: why are the kcontrol menus not available? Is there any back-ground information? So to summarize: both web-browser and e-mail program can be specified to be different from konquerer/kmail (apart from ubuntu, it seems). Correct? But I don't think digiKam should make extra effort and overcome default KDE settings on Linux - this is distribution job. Situation maybe slightly different on Windows/Mac. IMO digiKam should rely on kdelibs to solve that - still no change on digiKam part. m. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
This is similar to issues during the browser wars with how different
applications are coded to work with different browsers. Ultimately the solution was to make the default browser a universal system setting and get it out of the application. Surely there must be some equivelent in ubuntu / linux / kde? -Mike 2008/1/30 Mikolaj Machowski <[hidden email]>: > Dnia Wednesday 30 of January 2008, Arnd Baecker napisał: > > So to summarize: both web-browser and e-mail program > > can be specified to be different from konquerer/kmail > > (apart from ubuntu, it seems).
