EXIF and RAW

Bugzilla from pwaldo@waldoware.com
Hi all,

I am using an older version of Digikam, version 0.8.2-rc1, as package with my
Kubuntu distribution.  I have two questions:

- Is there any way to coerce digikam to read the EXIF information for the RAW
files?  I have compiled the latest version of exiv2 and have that available,
but no luck reading the EXIF with digikam.  I would prefer to hold off until
the next release of Kubuntu to get a later version of digikam, so as to not
have to try to compile digikam...

- When importing images from my CF card, only *.CRW files get transferred.
None of the *.THM files generated by the camera get transferred.  Since these
files are generated by the camera, I think of them as part of the "digital
negative".  Are they not needed for anything?

Thanks in advance!

Paul

no way, sorry... This is releavant of old  libexif witch cannot read Exif from
RAW.

digiKam 0.9.0 use exiv2 library now instead libexif.

These problems have been fixed in digiKam 0.9.0

Thanks for the reply!  I guess I'll have to get the sources and compile...

Not really. THM are small jpeg thumbnails of the raw image. But a much larger
jpg thumbnail is also embedded into the rawfile. The metatags of raw and THM
are nearly the same.  So, no need to collect the THM files.

HTH

The only thing than digiKam does with *.thm files from camera is to get the
image from this file to render preview in camera interface. It's very fast.

If your camera don't provide *.thm files, a raw file preview extraction is
used instead.
