Hello Digikam developers and users,
I wanted to let you know a potential opportunity to leverage external resources to improve Digikam. This might be useful with Digikam 2.0 on the horizon. It's worth a look. Vivek From http://blog.lydiapintscher.de/2010/11/05/google-code-in-kde-is-in/ KDE has been chosen as one of 20 organisations to mentor students for Google Code-in this year. Wohoooooo. We’re looking forward to working with a bunch of 13 to 18 year olds Let’s see how they’ll rock our world. And the most awesome thing: It’s not just about code this time but also documentation, outreach, quality assurance, research, training, translation and user interface. We’ve been collecting task ideas in the wiki. These tasks need to be transfered into Melange (the webapp that is used for GSoC and Code-In) now. So if you proposed a task there I’ll email you shortly with instructions. If you do have an idea that so far is not in the wiki and you’re willing to mentor it then please email kde-soc-mentor-owner at kde.org with the details. Some proposals: - updating the DigiKam handbook - creating in depth comparisons between DigiKam and other software Julien Le 08/11/2010 08:53, Gilles Caulier a écrit : > > > 2010/11/6 Vivek Prakash <[hidden email] <mailto:[hidden email]>> > > Hello Digikam developers and users, > > I wanted to let you know a potential opportunity to leverage > external resources to improve Digikam. For me, improved my windows install setup (currently experimental) :
http://digikam3rdparty.free.fr/misc.tarballs/digikam1.6.0-kde4.4.exe currently created with 7zip. This archiver can be scripted, and applications must be created on windows desktop and menu. Also, i would a little process to patch registry base to add digiKam in application list from system dialog when an USB device is plugged. Is there anything they could do to assist with getting new versions of digiKam distributed to Windows users faster? Or is that too complicated, or even impossible?

This subject is currently discussed in kde-windows ML. KDE-windows team is resurrected by me. I posted a lots of message about the unmaintained KDE packages for windows... Look in this ML archive for details, especially the last post... It's a tedious subject : how to anage a big project as to port KDE under windows with a small team... Gilles,
I think it is a very good idea, maybe nsis could be used instead of a simple zip: http://nsis.sourceforge.net/Main_Page It is easy to add icons to the start menu, to register the application into windows etc... It's easy ? . I take a look to sample code : I don't understand this language... Thi sis why i used 7zip instead... Yes, but a ZIP is not an installer, regardless of the algorithm used for
compression :D With NSIS you could create all the registry values you need, and, CPack also supports the creation of NSIS installers. I never used CPack though, I just created NSIS script manually all the time. - Writing unit tests ;)
- Once again an automatic dust and scratch reduction approach - A completely redesigned tagging workflow. The current integration in the right sidebar with Marcel's improvements still isn't sufficient to tag efficiently a lot of photos at once. - Statistic tools. We got a lot of data, why not generate some nice graphs and statistics from this, e.g. percentage of certain image formats or color types, geolocation-based stuff etc. Johannes On 11/08/2010 09:47 AM, Julien Narboux wrote: > > Some proposals: > > - updating the DigiKam handbook > - creating in depth comparisons between DigiKam and other software > > Julien > > Le 08/11/2010 08:53, Gilles Caulier a écrit : >> >> >> 2010/11/6 Vivek Prakash <[hidden email] <mailto:[hidden email]>> >> >> Hello Digikam developers and users, >> >> I wanted to let you know a potential opportunity to leverage >> external resources to improve Digikam. The keyboard shorcuts approach is the best for that, as KMail do...
