Hi
Digikam starts very slowly (about 10 minutes) without producing any error messages. I deleted digikam4.db but it did not change anything. "top" shows 10% system load (caused by digikam). What can I do to make digikam start faster? My system: Laptop with Intel core i5, ext4, 2GB RAM, Kubuntu 11.10 German thread: http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/digikam-startet-sehr-langsam-aber-ohne-fehlerm/ Thanks Killerkaninchen _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
Hello,
How big is your image collection? When you looked at "top" did you see a lot of "wa"? Can you also run "iostat -m 10" when you start Digikam to see if there is a lot of activity on the disk? What kind of hard-drive are you using (5400RPM, 7200RPM, SSD)? On what kind of file system is your image collection stored? Personaly, I have over 30K images in my collection on a Intel Core 2Duo with 3GM RAM and a 500GB 7200RPM HD and Digikam starts in a few seconds. I have the same problem. Digikam needs a lot of time checking for new
pictures. If I switch this off in preferences (not looking for new pictures), it's starting quite fast. I am not very happy with that, as checking for new pictures is actually neccesary, if you directly put any pictures in your collection folder. Otherwise they dont appear in your collection. After doing this I let digikam restart for the search and afterwards switch that feature off again. If I have connected all external collections it takes 5 to 10 minutes as well. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
If/when you know you've new pictures, you can use "Refresh" from the Menu, and I think it also works for the album and sub-albums selected, so it's quicker than do it for the whole collection.
