http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137836
Summary: Usability: Configure camera gui add and auto-detect
                    camera
           Product: digikam
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Ubuntu Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Camera GUI
        AssignedTo: digikam-devel kde org
        ReportedBy: john layt net

Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages
OS:                Linux

Couple of suggestions on the Configure Camera gui.

First, I suggest moving the "Auto-Detect" button to the top of the button stack above "Add" to prevent newbies selecting "Add.." and potentially getting confused by all those advanced options.

Secondly, the camera list in the "Camera Selection" is getting hard to navigate.  Suggestions include splitting into separate Brand/Camera selections, and adding a search box to filter the list.  Another option is to have 3 radio buttons for "USB Mass Storage Camera", "USB PTP Camera", and "Other Cameras", with the camera list greyed out unless the "Other Cameras" button is selected.

Finally, for KDE4, is there any plans for the Kamera kio slave and digikam to have a common kcontrol module in the kdegraphics lib?

SVN commit 794681 by cgilles:

digiKam from KDE3 branch : added search text bar to easy find a camera make/model from the huge list provided by libgphoto2.
There is no way with libgphoto2 to separate camera make/model. These infomations are merged to a common string and it's impossible
to short camera list by brand.
