Summary: Applying sharpen and blur to images in digikam image
                    editor doesnt respect selection
           Product: digikam
           Version: 0.8.0
          Platform: Gentoo Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Image Editor
        AssignedTo: digikam-devel kde org
        ReportedBy: spam saklig net

Version:           0.8.0 (using KDE KDE 3.5.1)
Installed from:    Gentoo Packages

When selecting part of the image in the digikam image editor and then doing a blur or sharpen, via the fix menu, the blur or sharpening is applied to the entire image instead of only the part of the image that is selected.

It should instead only be applied to that part of the image that is selected.

Yes, all filter like refocus, sharpen, blur, unsharp etc. are apply to the entire image not on current selection. This working like this because applying blur filter for example using a simple rectangle selection can give strange effect in rectangle border.

I think that a new selection tool using point array to provide a complex selection is more appropriate for that. But this tool doesn't yet exit. There a file in B.K.O about. Vote for it if it's that you want...

I guess you are right.
I was going to blur the numbers on the plates of my car before i put the images on the net, so i didnt really care if that part of the image became a bit weird, because it would look "weird" nomatter what with some blur in the middle of the image.

I just expected the blur to work that way but i think you are right, in 9/10 cases it will look weird.

Ok I close this report. Please vote for the right B.K.O entry about to add a new advanced selection tool in image editor.
