Digikam 2.1.0, same DB problem as in 2.0

tosca
I just completed the compilation from git, and Digikam 2.1.0 has the
same problem as the previous version: I can run it only one time. The
second time I launch it, my DB is corrupted.
Here is the trace I got from the first launch:

Re: Digikam 2.1.0, same DB problem as in 2.0

tosca
I need to downgrade to Digikam 1.9.0 in order to have a working
version. But I don't know the procedure to desinstall the 2.1.0 I've
compiled. Could somebody explain what must be done before reinstalling
1.9 with yum, please?

And I saw this bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=268267 as been
marked "RESOLVED as FIXED". Is there another one on the subject still
open at the moment?

Thanks,
Marie-Noëlle

Hallo Marie-Noelle

according to CMake documentation there is a file called
install_manifest.txt which lists all installed files. so you can do a

xargs rm < install_manifest.txt

and all those files will be removed. Please keep in mind that you may
remove files that were installed by other packages. You can check this
with 'rpm -qf filename' which reports the package the file belongs to.
So you have to go over the list in the install_manfiest file and get a
list of packages which you can reinstall to get a clean installation.
This is nothing you should do by hand but write a simple script for this.

After this you can install digikam 1.9 from repo as usual.

Must be very frustrating.
I still have thoughts on the subject, but no idea if they are valuable,
nor if you still want to keep trying.
First off all it should be interesting what happened finaly to Claude
Gelinas.

Sadly CMake based projects do not have an uninstall make target by
default. Digikam seems to be a positive exception. That's the reason for
using the install_manifest file.

Re: Digikam 2.1.0, same DB problem as in 2.0

Gilles Caulier-4
In fact, cmake do not provide an uninstall macro, but KDE project yes. We use it. This want mean that all KDE application compiled with cmake can be uninstalled.

Note : i backported this macro to Exiv2 project. If you compile it with cmake, make uninstall will run.

Sadly CMake based projects do not have an uninstall make target by
default. Digikam seems to be a positive exception. That's the reason for
using the install_manifest file.

Re: Digikam 2.1.0, same DB problem as in 2.0

The uninstallation went OK.

But I get a lot dependencies problems when trying to reinstall digikam
and kipi-plugins from the repositories: if I understand well, the
libraries are not the right version, so I guess I have to uninstall
them one by one ... Is it possible with yum remove? Or is there any
other/simpler procedure?

Hi Marie-Noëlle,

Not that it is of any use now, but you should realy investigate in
fsarchiver. It is such a great tool to bring your computer back to a
former state. I need it sometimes if the update service messes up my system.
I can give you detailed information on how to use it if you want. I have
my own wiki (sort of) too for things like that.

So what kind of error do you get? Did you install the libs from fedora
reositories? From kde-testing?

as far as I can tell, you'll need to uninstall by hand all libraries you
compiled and installed by hand.

Package managers usually can downgrade a library to a previous version (if
available in the repository), so for the libraries installed through Yum,
there's no need to remove them by hand (and it's safer, as the package manager
keeps track of dependencies)

Ah, you had kde-testing enabled and this installed some of the 4.7 kde
stuff (may be all). It is time to downgrade (possible with yum as well -
if my memory serves me well it is 'yum downgrade package-name'). try to
downgrade all the listed libs (or remove them altogether if you don't
use kde) and try to install digikam again.

If you used this idea from Martin to get the dependencies:

To get most of the required libs and bins you can download the source
RPM from fedora (recent one from kde-testing) and install it with yum.

then you will have to find a way to revert that.

you have to know (for next time) you are in no way obliged to install
the compiled version. It works (at least to some extend) directly from
the compilation folder

Do you mean it is possible to launch it (for testing) without doing
the 'make install'? And the previous version remains the one by
default?

Re: Digikam 2.1.0, same DB problem as in 2.0

OK, I'm back to 1.9.0 now.
I just had to remove the conflicting libraries by 'rpm -e
library-name' (with the --nodeps option for some of them) before doing
a proper 'yum install'.
I've updated accordingly both french and english procedures I'm
maintaining on my wiki:
http://www.webmaster-en-herbe.net/wiki/doku.php?id=wiki:configuration-2:digikam
http://www.webmaster-en-herbe.net/wiki/doku.php?id=wiki:configuration-2:digikam-en

Regarding the persistent bug I had with both versions 2.0.0 and 2.1.0
versions, I would very much like to know where it is being monitored
as I understand taht this one is closed:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=268267

Hm, removing packages with --nodeps should not be necessary. It is
usually not a good idea to do so - except for reinstalling a basic
component.

For most kde stuff you can uninstall the package and a later started
'yum install' should bring all back.

Do you know which packages you have to erase with --nodeps?
