Deleting RAW files

ozzyprv

I usually take pictures in both .jpg and RAW (.cr2 in my case).
Then I go over the jpg's and delete the "orphan" RAW files.... manually.

Is there a better, faster, way to do this?

I basically do the high level screening using gnome, not inside digiKam.

Thanks.

Oz.

Inside digikam, you can flag files, for example with a red flag, and then use
a filter to display only those files, hit ctrl + a, [shift +] del.

Personally, I shoot only RAW, and use the album view for the highlevel
screening as you call it, sometimes along with the lighttable.

Re: Deleting RAW files

Hi Anders,
Thanks, I knew about this feature. But since I shoot in both .jpg and raw I would have to do the flaging twice. Two times for each picture I don't like....
I wish there was a way within dK to delete the .jpg's and then make all the corresponding "orphan" raw go away as well.
I am sure there is a very easy script that can be written for this (outside dK), just I am not that good and scripting.

Thanks again for the quick response.

Re: Deleting RAW files

Simon Cropper-3
Ozzy,

I also have this problem - that is, using external image viewers to
review my JPG files and delete them. As with you this leaves me with the
problem of finding and deleting the orphaned RAW files.

There are two solutions to this -- use a viewer that can view RAW files
or write a script/program.

If you have a slow computer and very large files the former is not a
suitable solution. I still review my JPG files for this reason.

I decided to take the challenge and write a script that would do this
task. The script and associated tutorial is found here...

http://www.fossworkflowguides.com/scripting/tutorials/00015/index.html

Hope this helps. Any feedback is appreciated.

Re: Deleting RAW files

Thanks Simon. This is what I needed. I also use the. jpg to quickly screen my pictures with no need for a raw files viewer.
I try to only use dK for what is actually worthy - at least from the first pass.
