Did you use metadata writing in files ?
If yes you just have to rescan your album directory and tag should come back. For me, "database only" tagging is not an option, even not a sufficient one. Personally, I always use metadata writing in the files. But for now it probably doesn't help you if do not use it... Did you have make backup of your database ? May be you have lost an entire disk? (I don't hope so!) tehre are no reason for you to lose a data base without any other notice. Try fisrt to locate the database with an explorer, see what size it have and try reopening it from digikam jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgxog7_clip-l-ombre-et-la-lumiere-3-bad-pigeons_music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGgv_ZFtV14 _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

You can look for it in the directory where you store your images, see in the digikam configuration. Use a file manager or the find(1) or locate(1) shell commands if you are familliar with the shell, the database name contains "digikam" and ends in ".db". -- Anders _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
It is hard to speek for dk 1.2. as I am using 2.1.1 but either loosing
the database or loosing the config file would most likely bring up messages at startup process. So, if dk started normal but there are no photos I suppose you lost the disc where the photoś reside, as suggested by jdd or maybe that drive has for some reason not been mounted or has been unmounted. If you find your photos and your databases with nautilus or dolphin your database might have become corrupted. Have a nice day. Rinus. Three words to live by in the digital age:
1. Backup! 2. Backup! 3. Backup! There is no such thing as too many backups! I used to do the old usual second disk thing using DOS-like XXCOPY.EXE. using it's clone function. Then I kept a third disk in my Jeep, updating as I remembered. Why? Once you have a house fire you get very paranoid about irreplaceable losses. So, one on-site backup, one off-site. I no longer do the Jeep backup, although when I travel I do take an entire, freshly backed up hard drive with me, usually. For the last three years I've used Carbonite, $55/yr, which automatically backs up selected folders or files................like my digiKam database! While Carbonite may well have all my data stored, if I ever needed to recover everything, it would take several weeks, probably, to do so, even with high speed internet. Having my own hard drive would speed that up. This is a topic that I repeatedly preach about, both to friends and in my classes. Having had a large box of important family photos ALMOST become ash in that fire - all those singed prints and slides are a great prop in my classes - as the Beatles sang, "I'm a believer........" OK, I'm stepping off of my soapbox. Paul _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
Point taken, I'll look into this over the weekend and backup. Thanks. As suggested I searched for digikam and found the .db file still exists on the disk. Before I started messing with files I re-boot the PC and guess what Digikam now works OK. So what went wrong I've no idea. Thanks for everyone's suggestions. Daniel. Open a shell and run find . -iregex ".*digikam.*\.db$" When you have located your database, it can be explored by using sqliteman [1], if it doesn't open in digikam, and you can then see if the database is corrupted or not.
