Hi! I have two subjects, other is already asked and still a "unsolved"
problem. 1. Is there coming any change to photo "created/modified : dd.mm.yyyy hh:mm" information how it is shown? I always use a 128 size preview and i just noticed that if i change preview to smaller, i just see "created/modified" text and not information. So mayby there should be somekind change how to show that information, like just like "c : dd.mm.yyyy hh:mm" and "m : dd.mm.yyyy hh:mm". So user would know that m = modified and c = created information and those informations would be seen with smaller preview. Im planning to add wish report about this but i would like to know is there something what i'm doing wrong in this case? 2. My old problem to start a digikam has got new "turn". My problem was that almost everytime i started digikam, it didn't start (99% of case), and it stopped in a "Reading database" part (My pictures are on USB harddrive). When i run digikam from console, it didn't give any error message but just printed as last info that what version of dcraw i was using. And when i compiled svn version with debug information, problem didn't ever come up and digikam always started as it should! I have tryed a mandriva official, backported and cooker versions and always same problem was happening. And it was happening with Kubuntu and OpenSUSE distributions too with same PC. Now i have new information about this and i dont know how to use it as "advance" to solve this problem. I installed PCLinuxOS to my laptop and i noticed that digikam starts now with 95% change. But when i move drive (USB cable) back to Mandriva 2008, digikam still halts to that "reading database" positon. I have even made fresh database and added all albums one by one to new database (by menu option "add folder") and between albums, i restarted digikam until it didn't start and then moved those albums away to find problematic albums, this didnt' solve anything :-(. Example, Digikam didn't start anymore with album no.356 and then i moved no.356, and digikam didnt' start, so i moved 355 away and then it started again. Then i added albums back one by one, and it migh halt again with no.420 album but not with no.356 when it didn't start anymore last time. And if just had only those albums what didn't allow digikam to start in my database, there was no problem and digikam started :-/ So problem didn't exist on spesific file :-/ So now i need to ask, what can make so big difference in this case when i try with same digikam version but different distribution, PCLinuxOS vs Mandriva/OpenSUSE/Kubuntu? If i plug USB-HD to: Mandriva, digikam dont start but halts to "reading database". Kubuntu, digikam dont start but halts to "reading database". OpenSUSE, digikam dont start but halts to "reading database". PCLinuxOS, digikam starts and only sometimes halts to "reading database". User names (and UID/GID) are same on all distributions and all files/directories on my USBHD has correctly set permissions. So in this time, i'm "stuck" to PCLinuxOS if i want to use digikam to organize my photographs but i would like to have option to do this with mandriva PC too (powerfull and bigger monitor). So i need to use a "--debug" version from Digikam to get it work with Mandriva. So question is what problems i might have with it, like does it write anything special to digikam3.db or picture metadata, so is it safe to use it? _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

As far as I understand digiKam doesn't support reading/writing of database from non-local repositories. It mostly applies to network drives but not only. Differences between various distributions probably means that they are mounting USB in slightly different ways and with some settings sqlite (database engine of digiKam) can read data and sometimes not. m. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Sorry about this late answer to Vol 33, Issue 38 post. > Date: Tue, 26 Feb 2008 20:32:24 +0100 > From: Mikolaj Machowski <[hidden email]> > Well, one thing is missing: what strings are cut - Captions below > thumbnail, text in panel? Date captions below thumbnail is cut. This can be fixed by user if resizing font size to small enought (smaller than 8pt) but it would be better to change text "created" and "modified" to smaller like "C:" "M:" than actual important info, dates. > As far as I understand digiKam doesn't support reading/writing of > database from non-local repositories. My problem exist even if i would use normal HD and not USB drive. So it's not about that remote problem. It's just something to do between two different, Mandriva and PCLinuxOS builds. I even tryed this again by copying everything to two different machines and same happend, PCLinuxOS starts about everytime (95% change) but Mandriva just hangs. I just dont get what could be wrong :-/ _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Perhaps it's a kernel issue problem (outside digiKam in fact). Look if all is ok from kernel in /var/log/messages when you access to your drive with digiKam.
