Couple questions...

Kimberly

Hello, I’m new to digikam and I have a couple questions about the interface.

I’m using Windows 7 and I have KDE version 4.10.2

Is there a way to change the color of the tool tip window? Whenever I hover my mouse for information, it gives a yellow tool tip with very light grey text, which is impossible to read. This only seems to happen on the sections that I’ve set to give information, for example, if I hover over something like the label filter colors under the filter menu, the text is black on yellow. However, if I hover over a folder/album or a photo, the information that I have it set for is given in the grey text on yellow that I can’t read.

Also I’m wondering if there is a way to view the contents of a folder/album in a pure list form without the thumbnails. I would like to be able to see the file names and information for the picture only occasionally. Is this possible?

I am not a coder at all, but I’m really hoping there is a solution to these little issues, because this program seems to be really close to what I’ve been looking for for weeks! J

Thank you for any help you can give me!

Kimberly

Re: Couple questions...

Peter Albrecht
Hi Kimberly,

welcome to digikam. ;)

I use digikam with linux, so I am not very familiar with KDE
under windows.
In general you can configure tooltip colors with KDE's
"System Settings" dialog. Open this configuration tool (in
linux, I start it from the "start menu") and go to
"Application Appearance" -> "Colors"
There you can find "Tooltip Text" and "Tooltip Background"
under the "Colors" tab.
I use the color scheme "oxygen cold", which gives black text
on light blue background. This works well for me.

As for the "list view":
Have a look at http://www.digikam.org/node/694
Gilles describes "a new album interface display mode named
list-view". Perhaps this could help you.
But I use digikam 3.1.0 at the moment, so I can't test it.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
        Peter

I run Digikam in Debian Linux using Gnome desktop and had a similar problem with tool popups.  I can't remember the exact details but looking at history I think it was kdelibs that I installed to fix it.

Cheers

Excellent! Thank you very much Peter!

It has been a very long time since I worked on a linux based system. I am
using digikam 3.2.0 right now, I would love to be able to use the feature
talked about on that link you gave, but since I'm unfamiliar with the way
things work with linux right now, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with
that .tar file once I download it. Is it an addon that will install
automatically? Or is it a new version of the program or...?

Sorry for being such a n00b! But I'd very much appreciate your help to get
that feature working for me! :)

Thanks!
Kimberly

I just went into the theme configuration and chose a different theme, that fixed the problem! J Thanks for taking the time to answer though!

The "list-view" been talked about at the release notes
(http://www.digikam.org/node/694) is a default feature of
digikam 3.2.0. Since you already use this version, you don't
have to download any other stuff.

Just enable the list view from the main menu, I guess. I
don't use digikam 3.2.0 yet, so I can't really tell how to
enable list view. But maybe someone else on this list can.

From Album GUI main menu, use View/table entry. That all...

Re: Couple questions...

Kimberly
In reply to this post by Peter Albrecht
Thanks Peter,
I realized after I sent that message that the "list" view was the one I was
using from the beginning, with the thumbnails included in the list. I was
hoping for a list where I could just view the file names in the folder as in
any other file folder on the computer, and be able to interact with them
similarly. Unfortunately, every time I select an image in order to just look
at the info, it automatically opens a preview mode, which takes me out of
the list view. I found a configuration setting for "thumbnail click action",
but there doesn't seem to be an option where you can turn that off, or make
it a double click instead of a single click action. Is there a way to change
that?

Also, is there way to see the tags in list view? I'm trying to keep track of
what I'm doing with each picture, using the tags as like a check list, and
it would be very nice to be able to see the tags without having to open a
preview of each picture.

Thanks for all your help!

Best regards,
Kimberly

Right click on list view header. You will be able to customize columns...
