Hi there,
how is it possible to use the <DEL> Key right? As if i mark a Picture, and hit the key, Digikam tells me: 'Couldn't move picture nameofpicture.jpg to collection trash' and why i start Digikam 5.4.0 (under Ubuntu 17.xx) from console i saw something happend, but couldn't imagine what this is all about. Look here: https://pastebin.com/HwLRD72X I searched google for this problem, (re-)setting the Userrights for the folder .dtrash, and some other things.... .. but no solution at the moment.... Thanks for reading Vo. |

All is normal. Which file system do you use ? Where are hosted your collections ? On the network ? Gilles Caulier |

The main collection is on a serversystem (under Xubuntu) which hold's all ~70.000 photos. This machine backs up every month to a local movable HDD (formatet as FAT32). My (the machine which couldn't delete) is sync'ed over network and stores the collection on a movable SSD (it's formated as ntfs - i guess). All this file movements, sync and rename actions a done by filesystem programms. Digikam 5.x is used only on one machine to display the collection and edit the metatags. Sometimes I edit some JPG-Files from the colleciton and store them local. Nevertheless this works as it should, and i can delete Files (and Pictures) form the filebrowser and other programs too. I don't know what digikam5.x exactly wants to do - for deleting pictures. > Gilles Caulier I got it work, but the <DEL> - Key doesn't work Thanks. for your response regards Vo. |
If you're setting off the NTFS drive, make sure you have appropriate permissions. When I've had to mount NTFS, its been read only.
If you're doing lots of reading and writing, I'd suggest you use a filesystem that Linux has good support for: ext4 or xfs. -m On May 6, 2017 9:26:31 AM PDT, Vo <[hidden email]> wrote:

DEL move files to digiKam trash folder. This is completely different. Gilles Caulier |

I have the same problem (autumn 2017, Digikam 5.5.0 on Ubuntu 16.04).
For years I've used Digikam in Ubuntu without this problem. But since several days (weeks?) I can no longer normally delete images. I /can/ use SHIFT-delete, but this doesn't move the deleted files to a folder "trash". The latter used to go, and was handy to make recovery of accidentaly deleted pictures possible. I'd prefer NOT to use SHIFT-Delete, especially when deleting batches of photographs. -- Sent from: http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/digikam-users-f1735189.html |
Could you post the terminal output on pressing DEL ? I have the same problem (autumn 2017, Digikam 5.5.0 on Ubuntu 16.04). For years I've used Digikam in Ubuntu without this problem. I have exactly the same problem (currently on Fedora 27, but started at least
1-2 years ago, with whatever Fedora was current then). Digikam version is digikam-5.7.0-4.fc27.x86_64, and my Window manager is lxdm. My complete terminal output for starting digikam and trying to delete an image is this: AndriusWild wrote > Could you post the terminal output on pressing DEL ? -- Sent from: http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/digikam-users-f1735189.html |
Ha, I think I fixed it - just removed the .dtrash folder in my collection.
When I tried to delete a picture after that, a new .dtrash was created, and the picture moved there without problems. Comparing the old and new .dtrash folders, it seems that permissions and ownership are the same, BUT the previous (broken) folder was missing "files" and "info" subdirectories that are present in the new one. -- Sent from: http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/digikam-users-f1735189.html |
