Choice field for camera make and model?

Maik Qualmann
Gilles,

I added the lens search as a choice field. What would you think if we use the
free text fields for camera make and model as a choice field (data from DB)?

Hi Maik,

If i understand, the question is about to provide a free text field to search camera lens model in database. Right ?

I don't have objection. The search will provide a result with best similar strings found in database. As Lens string identification is a puzzle to extract form metadata while DB registration, i cannot see a better way to process).

Note : more than one lens can be found by Exiv2 for same ID from makernotes.

Gilles,

Look in this closed bug 228015. In the advanced search we now have the
possibility to search for a specific or several lenses. The same choice field
filled with data from the DB I would also suggest for camera make and model.
Currently a free text field.

I just recompiled whole digiKam code with Qt 5.6.3. I see the change with lens search feature. It's a great improvement.

Yes you proposal with make and model sound fine for me.

I hope I can play again this evening. ((:-)) On my computer, the motherboard is dead, with no previous signs. Have spare, give me time to look at what I then upgrade.
