N00b alert. I am new to linux and am trying to get rid of using windows. I was able to add my camera as a 'Mass Storage Device' and it was detected properly and I could see and select my photos. I selected to download them and it sort of looked like it had done something but the photos didn't get downloaded into the folder in Pictures. My Camera is a Samsung L730 which is not listed, does that make a difference?

if the camera is a MSD, you might be able to mount the camera and import
from "usb storage devices" if worst comes to worst, you can remove the sd card and install it in a usb sd card reader. you then import from "usb storage devices." actually, that's the way i prefer to transfer my photos. -rei Myles Parker wrote: > N00b alert. Thanks for that. Yes I found that method by doing some more searching and it was successful. I then installed Picasa and it works perfectly under Wine and downloaded the photos to a specified folder. Have you double checked that they didn't somehow get downloaded to another location? Maybe do a search of the whole drive for one of the files, assuming there are still copies on the camera.

I just upgraded to PCLINUXOS 2009 and I'm running digikam 0.9.6 on KDE
3.5.10. I see all the albums on the window on the left, but when I click on an album, none of the thumbnails show up. Everything worked fine previously (digikan on Mandriva 2009). Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Lorne -- Lorne Schachter 136 Washington Ave Edison, NJ 08817 (732)819-9176 [hidden email] _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
Try to logout/reboot your computer. If it does not work it may be a
packaging problem. 0.9.6 is quite old, consider upgrading to 1.0.0 which should be out soon. Peter, Thanks for that but I don't think that they were as whatever happened on the screen was way too fast to have downloaded several photos. Anyway, I downloaded and installed Picasa and it worked just fine under Wine, downloaded the photos no problem.I might even chance running the offical Samsung pgm under Wine and see what happens. ooops - apologies!
It's just that I have a Picasa 'account' but could only see an export from Digikam to Flickr and none for Picasa (using Ubuntu 8.04 and KDE 3.5.10, Digikam 0.9.3 - so there's probably one in the new version?) - in fact I only really use Picasa for uploading to my account - the rest is Digikam! :) I must say it's extremely impressive - even better with a Picasa export ;-) ? I had always assumed all things 'google' were open-source!!! (I admit to rarely reading licence agreements tho' - life's too short! All the best And Merry Digikaming to you all! Yes, I wasn't really keen on hosting them on Picasa but I needed to get them up. I will use another service once I get the downloading thing happening. Myles. aFrom: jdd-gmane <[hidden email]>
