CR2 to JPG

seb.vallet
Hello,

I tried something with digikam without success
I thought it is simple but I failed to find the solution
So I am here to ask you some advice...

I use Digikam 2.5 with a Canon 100D.
Unfortunately I took some pictures in CR2 format.
It was a mistake
And now I want to get the images in JPG.
But I am not interested by a sophisticated method for RAW processing.
As the CR2 images look like a charm directly in Digikam album viewer, so I think it should be a simple way to convert them in JPEG.
Do you know how can i do it ?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Sebastien

Sebastien,

1. Select the photos you want converted in the main window.
2. Click on the 'Batch Queue Manager' - you should see the selected
photos in the left panel
3. In the control panel select "Convert to JPEG"
4. Select any other adjustment required then RUN Batch Queue (top left
button)

Re: CR2 to JPG

seb.vallet
Dear Simon,

Thank for this tip.
It generates a JPEG file but unfortunately the image looks like pink filter, the colors are altered and are not good like I can see in Digikam preview.

More details :
The CR2 image looks good in Digikam album viewer
The CR2 image looks bad (too pink) in Image Editor
And the JPEG image generated by your solution looks like in Image Editor.

Thank you,

S

Sebastien,

If you look at this post...

http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1009934.html

... it suggests the was encountered a few years back and was fixed.

I have checked the raw conversion program (DCRAW) and it supports your
camera. I can then only presume that you are using out of date software
or software using older versions of the RAW libraries (i.e. prior to
your camera being supported by the LibRAW/DCRAW libraries).

Look at the LibRAW version (Help > Components Information), it should be
0.15.4 and Digikam should be 4.5.0 or something similar. If you have
older versions you will need to upgrade to at least a version that
supports your camera.

Re: CR2 to JPG

seb.vallet
Simon,

Thank you for your answer.
Yes your are true, it seems that libraw supports the canon 100D since
the 0.15.0 revision (released may 2013
http://www.libraw.org/news/libraw-0-15-0)
And I use the outdated ubuntu 12.04...
I will try to install the updated libraw to fix this issue.

Thank you for your support.

Re: CR2 to JPG

Philip Johnsson
You can't just update libraw to make it work with digikam. You also need to rebuild libkdcraw against it and then rebuild digikam against them both...

Puzzling.

If libraw has the same API and functions and libkdcraw is a wrapper then
surely it should simply pass calls to the underlying libraw.so
shouldn't it?

it must. but don't forget the ABI (not API). The binary compatibility
is not always respected.

At least libraw + libkdcraw must be recompiled. digiKam don't know
libraw ABI so it can be not necessary to recompile it after libkdcraw.

Yes, I knew what I wanted to type but put the wrong thing.

I would expect it to be, but maybe some people haven't had the Linus
treatment about such things.

Makes sense, so really it's only libkdcraw that makes the difference.
That's part of KDE rather than digiKam right?

yes. libkdcraw is released through kdegraphics, but it maintained
by... digiKam team, as we have written fully this KDE/Qt interface to
libraw. It's used by Gwenview, Kphotoalbum and other part of KDE/Qt
applications.
