Bug#491458: Fwd: [Bug 185638] digikam crash on startup

Mark Purcell
Luc, Martial,

I have forwarded your crash reports upstream.

Could I ask you to make a backtrace using GDB as follows:

# gdb digikam
> run
> ...
> _crash here_
> ...
> bt
> _the backtrace is here_
> quit

For a detailed and very helpful guide on providing useful crash reports see
this guide
http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports

Thanks,
Mark

Bug#491458: Fwd: [Bug 185638] digikam crash on startup

Mark Purcell
Luk, Martial,

I think I have narrowed down this issue.

digikam tries to load the marble plugins, but they are not shipped in the
libmarble package, rather the marble package itself.

The solution is for digikam to Depend on marble, but as a work around, you
should be able to install marble (KDE4.2) by hand and digikam should then
work.

Could you please confirm if this fixes your issue.

Thanks,
Mark

Bug#491458: [Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#491458: Fwd: [Bug 185638] digikam crash on startup

Bugzilla from lure@kubuntu.org

Mark,

According to tackat (marble developer) libmarble should not be expected to work w/o plugins (even though he has fixed the crasher in trunk). I think better fix is that libmarble4 would depend on marble-data package (something like this was done in Ubuntu's kdeedu package).

Regards,
Luka

Marble is installed, this is not the issue.  The GDB dump below, confirms
there is an issue: something to do with the undcard. Indeed I confirm
on my laptop, sound is still not working. However I don understand why
Digikam is involved in sound.

Should I involve the Phonon maintainers in this ?

It is in the kde bugtracker now, so they should be able to reassign as
necessary.
