[Bug 306283] New: Browsing large pic collections and select subsequent subsets of these: workflow?

Axel Krebs
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=306283

            Bug ID: 306283
          Severity: normal
           Version: 2.8.0
          Priority: NOR
          Assignee: [hidden email]
Summary: Browsing large pic collections and select subsequent
                    subsets of these: workflow?
    Classification: Unclassified
                OS: Linux
          Reporter: [hidden email]
          Hardware: Ubuntu Packages
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
         Component: Image Editor
           Product: digikam

Problem: browsing large pic collections (> hundreds or even thousand of pics):

I use a AOC e2725Vh screen with 27" size. This is not "small", maybe somewhat
above average screen sizes.

In digiKam (KDE?), it is possible to see 5 to 6 pics horizontally and 3 pics
vertically, therefore 15 to 18 pics, max at acceptable sizes.

Question: is there a workflow for how to browse/ assort/ select/ arrange large
mounts of pics? There are tags, stars, and many other criteria of course.

A tool for automatic sharpness-detection would be here very advantegous,
additionally. This could provide "sharp" or "unsharp" as an additional filter.

- How can I use set-algebra with pics?
(select= good, deselect= less good, and use restrictions subsequently)

- What is  a "best practise" for browsing large pic numbers?
- Can someone  advice?

- Is there a workflow-description for browsing and subsequent selection of
pictures?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. just work with large amounts of pics
2. how do do selection process efficiently?
3. how to selct sets and refine subsets (and so on?)
Actual Results:
at the given time, such a selection procedure is very inefficient- no screen
has enough size, subsequent subsets selection are not supportet (as much as I
know)

Expected Results:
efficient workflow, at least as good as competitive prgs  ;.-)!

it is a "seroius wish", not bug(?)
