Currently if one clicks on a collection, i.e. the first item in the
tree-structure within the left pane the main pane only displays "Welcome to
digikam...".

It would be comfortable if that view displayed the albums of that collection as
thumbnails, i.e. a big picture for each album and maybe even the name/date
underneath it.

Hovering the thumbnail of an album would  start a slideshow of its pictures,
i.e. the thumbnail would change every .75 seconds.

Clicking on the thumbnail would then open the album.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
click on the first item in the tree structure

Actual Results:  
"welcome to digikam" text shown

Expected Results:  
each album represented by a thumbnail

Definitively not the way to go in the future. We have re-implemented Welcome
Page view to promote new features (as previous version) + a background photo
from end user.
