[Bug 277094] New: digikam 2.0 RC won't start

On windows install, XP SP3 OS digikam or showphoto don't even start . I get
error "the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002), click ok to
terminate the application ".
This happens on both and all start menu shortcuts are wrong but that is easy
fix .
not sure if it needs more modules installed as I see KDE-window installer but
seems its for old digikam

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
just try an start digikam, showphoto etc

Actual Results:  
  I get error "the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002),
click ok to terminate the application ".


Expected Results:  
should start/open

Do you have an older digiKam/KDE version installed on this computer. If yes, it
must be uninstalled before.

Note : 2.0.0RC have been compiled under Win7 64bits with MSVC2008 SP1
compiler...

Do you use a 32 bits computer under XP ?

Hi, XP is 32bit  windows OS with service pack 3 installed(latest) .
I don't have older KDE stuff anymore only thing I have is gimp with python 2.6
an python 2.6 PyGTX installed .

ok, If this is the case I don't think you can run 64bit app on 32bit OS (you
can the other way around >run 32bit on 64bit OS )
So AFAIK this won't run on 32bit OS only 64 bit ones .

one last thing if the digikam is compiled for 64bit windows OS you should
rename the link as its says its for win32 (digiKam-installer-2.0.0rc-win32.exe
)

Update : digiKam have been compiled under a 64 win7 computer, but MSVC 2008
only include 32 bits Runtime library. So it's a 32 bits version of digiKam...

It must work on your computer.

Install DebugView :

Run it and start digiKam. Copy and paste here all trace reported by DebugView

not sure whats going on but nothing is showing up in debugview window .
I am only user and is a administrator rights .

ok, I think I found something in system event viewer .
I get 3 events generated when I try to start digikam.exe

1) dependent assembly Microsoft VC90 OpenMP could not be found and last error
was the referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

2)Resolved partial assembly failed for Microsoft VC90 OpenMP. Reference error
message: the referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

3)Generate activation context failed for C:\program
files\digikam\KDE4-MSVC\bin\kdcraw.dll . Reference error message: the operation
completed successfully

Not sure exact oder of these ,there all same timestamp .

I ran windows Visual C++ 2008 Runtime x86 (vcredist_x86.exe) and now digikam
runs

Since digiKam 2.0.0 have been published with KDE 4.7 installer for windows by
KDE-Win team, This problem have been fixed. MSVC runtime package is installed
automatically.

Well, I'm sorry, but : no.

I tried to install DigiKam both with Windows Installer (.exe) and then  
with KDE 4.7 Installer (after uninstall the first installation, of course)  
and it did not work. I have always the same message about C++ Visual Basic.

Any idea ?

Well, I suppose there is no solution to run DigiKam on my computer.
No matter, I just wanted to try this famous software (I usually use  
Expression Media for my photos).
