[Bug 274879] New: Low resolution version of photo is displayed and portrait oriented photos are rotated 90 degrees

Bugzilla from aboelens@engin.umass.edu
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=274879

Summary: Low resolution version of photo is displayed and
portrait oriented photos are rotated 90 degrees
           Product: digikam
           Version: 1.9.0
          Platform: Debian unstable
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Albums GUI
        AssignedTo: [hidden email]
        ReportedBy: [hidden email]

Version:           1.9.0 (using KDE 4.6.3)
OS:                Linux

When clicking on a photo in an album a low resolution version of the photo is
shown. Also, if the photo is supposed to be displayed in portrait orientation
the photo is displayed 90 degrees rotated in landscape orientation. When
editing a photo, the full resolution photo is shown and the orientation is
correct.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Select an album and click on a photo.

Actual Results:
A low resolution photo (thumbnail?) is shown instead of the actual photo.

Expected Results:
I would expect to see the full resolution photo in the right orientation.

OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.39-1-686-pae
Compiler: gcc

1) Please check in the setup that you did not disable the options to load
full-size preview and honour the exif orientation tag
2) Can you provide a sample picture? If it is too big to attach and you have no
webspace, you can send it to me by private mail

Enabling "load full-size preview" solved the issue! Is this a new option, or
would this be an option that is supposed to be enabled by default? If this is
the case, I should probably file a bug with Debian?

It's not a new option. It exist since 1.0 release.

The goal is to set this option disabled by default to optimize speed.

Note that digiKam as an firstrun assistant where it's ask to user if he want to
tune this option
