Which digikam version?
I'm not sure from your description if you can see images - you mention to see
thumbnails, but then you say there are no images. In the latter case, it's
usually an installation/distribution problem to have the kioslaves correctly
installed.

Gilles, the 0.6.2 version probably comes from KPackageKit, where the bug was
reported from.
