[Bug 236394] New: import from camera using cable is slow and previously imported video files are not flagged

Bugzilla from daveshep@gmx.com
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=236394

Summary: import from camera using cable is slow and previously
imported video files are not flagged
           Product: digikam
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Ubuntu Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: [hidden email]
        ReportedBy: [hidden email]

Version:            (using KDE 4.4.0)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages

I have a Canon Ixus 80IS and am using Ubuntu 10.04 (although I had this same
problem with 9.04).

Importing images and video files from the SD card using my computer's card
reader works perfectly. It's fast and it flags any files I have previously
imported with a tick. (I generally don't delete the files from my camera until
the card is full and it's all backed up).

BUT trying to import images and videos using the USB cable is extremely slow.
It spends a lot of time generating thumbnails for the video files. It also
doesn't flag the video files (.avi) that I have previously imported (although I
do get a prompt later on to overwrite/skip/rename video files IF I am importing
them into the same directory I did last time, if I am importing into a
different directory then I'll end up with multiple copies of the same video).
It does flag the previously imported images.

It's not a serious issue as I can use the card reader, but I'd prefer to use
the cable. I've heard of people who have come into problems with the card
reader inside the camera after lots of use swapping cards...

Canon camera use gphoto2 driver. Which digiKam and libgphoto version you use.
Go to Help/Component info for details.

Can you reproduce the problem to use a CF card reader ?

-> previously imported video files are not flagged : fixed in 2.1.0.
-> import from camera using cable is slow => fixed in 2.1.0. See:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=261871

and

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=243760

For details.

Can you test with current implementation from git master ?

Thanks in advance

For me this file is fixed now (future digiKam 2.1.0). Please re-open if
necessary...

nice work Giles.

sorry i just can't get that latest version installed... trying to follow the
instructions here
http://www.digikam.org/drupal/download?q=download/GIT
but get libkexiv2 error and an opencv error etc. PITA.

i'll trust you've fixed the problem ;)
