What I was doing when the application crashed:
rebuilding previews works fine
rebuilding fingerprints crashes. When started rebuilding all fingerprints,
digikam contuinues til it finds avi. Thatś what i found when watching the
moment of crash.

It looks like other formats may be affected, too.

Some of the files do _not_ show a prewview-thumbnail but rather a red circle
with a diagonal line similar to a traffic sign.. Maybe a sign for
"unreadable"???

thanks for the message!

you are right, it would be preferable to install fresh software v 1.2+;
unfortunately, ubuntu 9.10 does offer digikam only 1.0.0.-beta5.

ubuntu is just 2 days "old", it's too risky to install right now.
