What I was doing when the application crashed:
Linking to Powershot A570 is successful and images are displayed, however when
"download" is selecting the application crashes. This happens every time.

I'm using the current stable package I believe. I don't see any other package
alternatives in the main repositories.

The problem is that ubuntu only delivers such an old version. You can get a
more recent one using the backports or a ppa. Just google for it. You will find
enough information how to use them.
