I have now tested with my hp 5550, and got the following results:
* scaling is respected, that is the size of the printed image is as expected
* autorotate does not rotate a landscape image so that it is printed with the
long side of the image along the long side of the paper
* landscape mode in printer driver is equal to portrait + autorotate, image is
not rotated and oddly placed on the A4 paper i used for this test.
* landscape mode in printer options + autorotate on is similar again
