What I was doing when the application crashed:
Digikam disappears without warning when attempting to download photos from
micro-SD card attached as storage through a Sony Model MRW62-E USB Card Reader.
Repeatable.

That means Kubuntu 9.10 needs updating. 1.0.0-beta5 is their current package as
of 2010-03-05.

Workaround:
Drag and drop selected files to album instead of using "Download Selected"
toolbar button.
