[Bug 219523] New: keyboard shortcuts are registered globally

Bugzilla from dominik.stadler@gmx.at
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219523

Summary: keyboard shortcuts are registered globally
           Product: digikam
           Version: 0.9.0
          Platform: Ubuntu Packages
        OS/Version: unspecified
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Kipiinterface
        AssignedTo: [hidden email]
        ReportedBy: [hidden email]

Version:           0.9.0 (using KDE 4.3.4)
Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages

for me the keyboard shortcuts from the kipi-plugins are registered globally,
which is quite annoying, as then any of those keyboard shortcuts is always
triggering the kipi-plugin even when I use a completely different application.

E.g. in kipi-plugins CTRL-SHIFT-LEFT/RIGHT is used to rotate pictures.

Now when I start kphotoalbum and have it running in the background, I cannot do
any "select words" in any other application as always the kipi-plugin is
triggered when I try to do that.

This even leads to "loss of data" as this way I already triggered plugins that
I did not want to run at all and which changed picture information in a bad
way!

Additionally there is no way to disable these shortcuts as it seems
kipi-plugins do hardcode them.

[Bug 219523] keyboard shortcuts are registered globally

Bugzilla from dominik.stadler@gmx.at

--- Comment #1 from Dominik Stadler <dominik stadler gmx at>  2009-12-21 10:05:51 ---
I have to correct myself, there is a way to disable these shortcuts. The system
settings contain an item for keyboard/mouse and there in the global keyboard
commands I can unset these commands.

Still the question for me is why these need to be global shortcuts and why they
use keyboard combinations that are widely used for standard actions, e.g.
selection handling.
