What I was doing when the application crashed:
Importing a large collection of images crashes digikam.

steps to reproduce: (german)
* select Einstellungen->digikam einrichten
* select Sammlungen
* click on Sammlung hinzufügen
* now select a folder with a large collection of photos
* click ok
* click ok
* import dialogue is shown, wait until crash
