[Bug 201661] New: More options for file renaming when importing images

Stefano Ferri
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201661

Summary: More options for file renaming when importing images
           Product: digikam
           Version: 0.10.0
          Platform: Slackware Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: [hidden email]
        ReportedBy: [hidden email]

Version:           0.10.0 (using KDE 4.2.3)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Slackware Packages

I would like to have some extra options to decide how automatically rename
files when they are imported from my camera.

1- My camera assigns uppercase names, and Digikam has an option to change them
to lowercase. But this feature is fully working only if imported files are
saved with the original name assigned by the camera. If a custom name is
chosen, extension is kept uppercase. Example:

IMG_001.JPG > becomes > img_001.jpg

while with custom names

IMG_001.JPG > becomes > my_name-001.JPG

Could be possible to change lowercase also the exension?

2- Digikam can add a sequence number to renamed files. I haven't found any
option to reduce the number of digits, all files have 6 digits. I don't think
will never exist somebody who will need to rename one million photos :-)! Could
be possible to add an option to let user choose the number of digits? And also
to let user choose the symbol between name and numbers (_ or blank space
instead of -). Example:

now
IMG_001.JPG > becomes > my_name-000001.jpg
requested
IMG_001.JPG > becomes > my_name-001.jpg

Thank you.

Please, try 1.0.0-beta3 where all renaming options have been very improved...

Thank you for your answer, I've just compiled and installed Digikam 1.0 beta 3.
I must say that a great work has been done :-)

There are a lot of useful options, but also in this version, file extensions
are always kept uppercase if a custom name is selected. Should'nt be good if
Digikam automatically changed extensions to lowercase, when a custom name is
selected? I have no one file on my system with an uppercase extension :-)!

About the number of digits, what do you think about adding a little box to
choose the number of digits near the "add sequence number" box? There are still
6 digits, I think 6 are really too much...

Thank you
Stefano

Only the AdvancedRename utility is used now so some parts of this report have
been become invalid.

I implemented file extension modification 2 days ago, when using a custom file
name, you can alter it by adding the [ext] rename option prepended by a '.'
character and apply some modifier to it, like "uppercase", "lowercase" etc.

For example the rename pattern
[file].[ext]%
will change the file extension to lowercase.

See
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3092/4080328746_49e8a3cf2a_o.jpg

There are some modifiers that can be added / chained to file rename options.

I will close this report now, feel free to re-open it again if something is
still not working for you.

Andi

Stefano,

setting a custom digits count is also possible now, see this screenshot:
