DigiKam Looks to be a well featured front end to a digital asset management
solution, but you might want to consider integrating it with a more robust
backend digital asset store like Alfresco which is also open source, and seems
to incorporate a number of standards as well.
Ideally you would use the custom content models, workflow, smart folders with
rules, aspects and other alfresco features, and to also replace the internal DB
that Digikam uses and communicate with the back end repository of alfresco by
soap, rest, or the new CMIS standard where that information would be held in an
enterprise scale repository.
