[Bug 182019] New: no images displayed in albums view

Bugzilla from endless97c@yahoo.com
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=182019

Summary: no images displayed in albums view
           Product: digikam
           Version: 0.10.0-rc1
          Platform: unspecified
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: [hidden email]
        ReportedBy: [hidden email]

Version:           0.10.0-rc1 (using 4.1.4 (KDE 4.1.4), Mandriva Linux release
2009.0 (Official) for i586)
Compiler:          gcc
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.27.7-desktop586-1mnb

When I start digikam there are no images displayed for any of the albums.
Checking them in the file browser confirms that the images do still exist.
Problem started when I upgraded from 0.10.0 beta 8 to 0.10.0 rc1.  I tried
deleting ~/.kde4/share/config/digikamrc but the problem persists.

Do you have an active filter set? Look at the green/red LED on the bottom,
click on it if it is red.

Hello, I tried running digikam from the console and for some reason the problem
is now fixed.  I don't know why, I didn't change anything.  But I did try
opening and closing digikam before this several times, both from menu and
console.  Unfortunately I didn't think to copy the console output.  Maybe it
needed a reboot/fresh login for changes to propagate?  Do you still need the
output from the console?

If it works now and you can't reproduce, then we cant do any more. Closing for
now.

This made me wondering that maybe if no images appear in the album
view, digikam should display some text with hints/explanations why
there might be no images. Has anyone thought of or suggested this
before? How many different scenarios can lead to a blank album view?
Maybe the text should be dynamic - for example instead of (or in
addition to) the red LED button text would show that "there are no
image displayed because of the currently applied filters." For search
results, digikam could show: "image search is in progress..." while
the search is running and "your search did not match any images".
