I sometimes take series of pictures and take them both in JPEG and RAW file
format. The thumbnail browser in ShowFoto is sorting them seemingly purely by
time which leads to unpredictable order within pictures taken within the same
second - of which my camera can take up to 6, so 12 files are shown in the
thumbnail browser without any reproducible order. The main sort order IMHO
should be image name...

What version of showFoto are you using?
Have you set the sort-order correctly?
You can do so in Settings->Configure->General->Sort Order

Thanks Andi, that was the problem. Now I would only wish for a more obvious way
to set this, having this setting hidden away at the bottom of a scroll area
didn't really help in discovering it... What I would really like would be to
have three buttons above the thumbnail browser which allow to easily check and
modify this behavior... If you like I can open a new wish list entry for this
and close this one.
